To ensure that you stay safe and that the used car you drive away in is too, we recommend that you shop with a reputable used car dealership. There are many Bedfordshire used car dealers that are worth a visit, so take some time to think about what type of vehicle you’re looking for and what your requirements are. Then take a look around to see what is available and how they measure up to your budget.
Sadly, there are some people out there who see no harm in selling someone a less than pleasant car for a bit of a profit – we aren’t saying this to scare you, but it’s worth being aware of some of the facts when you’re shopping around.
To help you spot a dodgy used car dealer, here are some of our tips on staying safe and what to keep an eye out for.
Are they too keen to sell you the car?
If your seller is especially keen to sell you the car, it may be a sign that something isn’t right. It may have a dodgy history, or may have a major (and perhaps potentially life-threatening) fault – either way, there’s going to be a reason why they want rid so badly.
As well as being super keen, they may want to sell the car to you for an oddly low price – for all the same reasons. If the price of a car seems too good to be true, look elsewhere.
Are they not answering any questions?
Asking questions is a really important part of securing a safe and legal used car. You should ask questions about everything from repair and maintenance, to the cars service history (ask for evidence too), to if you can take it for a test drive. If they refuse a test drive, or dodge any of your questions, again – it’s probably indication that something is the matter.
We’ll say it again – there’s no harm in buying from an independent seller, but to stay truly safe, you should shop at a dealership to give yourself the added peace of mind.
