Most people are under the wrong perception that the pre-owned scooters and bikes are overly defaulted. Few are under the impression that the reason why people are willing to part way with their old bikes and scooters is because of a problem with them in the first place. While it might be truthful for a few such two-wheelers, it is not right for most of the vehicles in the pre-owned two-wheeler segment currently.
Most people tend to sell off their old scooters and bikes in order to upgrade them with a new model or simply because they have lost interest in them and looking to switch over to other brands. However, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take a proper look on the two-wheeler you are about to spend your hard earned money upon. Keep these 5 things in mind while considering buying a second hand scooter/bike:
The material used for the production of the scooter/bike determines the amount of life left in the two-wheeler. Carbon fiber and aluminium made vehicles tend to last for a longer duration than their Steel counterparts and are often more lightweight also in comparison.
Tires and Rims
You can always measure the amount of distance covered by the scooter or bike by the amount of flatness appearing on the tires. If the tires look out of friction, it can be safely assumed that the two-wheeler has been used vigorously for a longer duration. Also, the older the bike/scooter, the more it would cost you on maintenance. Therefore, it would be better to go for a relatively newer vehicle.
Also keep a look on the rims beneath the tires also. Make sure they are not damaged or any spooks are coming out of them.
Your first priority should be to check if the brakes on the two-wheeler are in working conditions or not. Brakes can make all the difference on a second hand bike. Lookout for any damaged or bent connections between the brake and lever connectors. To be absolutely sure about your safety, take a test drive of the vehicles and apply the brakes at different speeds to be completely sure. Scooters such as Fascino are fitted with drum brakes which are handy on smaller wheel size while others are fitted with disc brakes. Forks and Chains
Make sure the suspension forks on both the end are working well. Suspensions are very useful in providing you with a comfortable ride even on bumpy roads. For an older version, the fork set can be very expensive to buy. Therefore, ideally, make sure you have them in perfect condition before buying a pre-owned bike or scooter. Also look for signs of rust on the chain and make sure it is well oiled regularly.
The frame provides the whole structure to a scooter and bike. Hence, always make sure that the frame is free of rust or scratches. Make sure that frame is not damaged or dented from any part. Most of the higher priced bike/scooter such as Yamaha Fascino uses a high quality frame. You can read about the scooter in the Yamaha Fascino review available on the web.
The Last Words
You can easily tell the overall condition of a used bike/scooter by having a test drive on it. Insist on having a test drive as it would allow you to check for any faults on the vehicle while riding it. If you are satisfied with the quality of product offered in accordance to the aforementioned points, you can negotiate the price of the vehicle to take it to your home.
